Summer

Two hands digging in a garden.

Things are heating up, and soon you’ll be enjoying the literal fruits of your labor. The summer to-do list is fairly simple, but we go in more details about a couple of topics below.

Summer is a great time to think about two not-so-desireable parts of gardening: weeds and pests. Read more about both below.

Weeds

It’s important to not let weeds go to seed because it leads to more weeds. So make sure you pull them early and often!

The best defense is an offense, to use a sports metaphor, so we recommend taking advantage of mulch to prevent weeds from growing in the first place. We mentioned this on our spring page, but it’s worth mentioning again here. Read this guide to dealing with weeds from the Willow Ridge Garden Center.

Pests

Pests can be tricky and they can show up at just about any time. We recommend using natural methods to combat pests, whether they are aphids or weevils, and this guide from Willow Ridge Garden Center details exactly what you need to know about protecting your garden. It covers everything from what to do if you spot a pest to things you can do to prevent them in the first place.
