Overview
This guide was created in response to the rising rates of food and housing insecurity across college campuses with the purpose of making essential services accessible to students. UTK’s campus has an abundance of resources, each with their own unique webpage and services offered to the campus community.
The Basic Needs Guide is a centralized page for students to learn about…
- organizations on and off campus,
- the services they provide,
- how to access those services,
- contact information so students can get connected easily
To supplement UTK’s on campus resources, off-campus resources in Knoxville are included for those who do not live on campus or need a service that is not available on campus.
Artifact Description
- What is the requirement for this assignment?
- This artifact was not an assignment, nor was I asked to create it. I took on creating the LibGuide on my own as a part of my Graduate Research Assistant work after completing my Cook 4 Community action plan.
- What did you do – explain your work?
- Researched housing and food insecurity resources on and off campus and created this guide using LibApps
- Synthetized Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to explain the purpose of the guide
- Completed a UTK LibGuide introduction training and accessibility training
- Located the contact information, how to access services, hours, and what services provided for each resource
- Created a layout that would be easy for students to navigate and broke up all of the text
- Had the Student Engagement Librarian, Zoe Bastone, at Pendergrass Library review the guide prior to publishing because she manages the Pendergrass Website and has extensive experience using LibApps and WordPress
