East Tennessee Planting Guide

Overview

The East Tennessee Planting Guide is a collaborative website created by myself and three of my peers for our Web Design course. This website was inspired by my research creating a new branch of the UT Libraries Seed Library in Pendergrass Library. The East Tennessee Planting Guide is designed to be a first destination for anyone looking to grow their own vegetables, fruit, or flowers in the Volunteer State.

The East Tennessee Planting Guide has information about:

  • Pest & Beneficial Bugs
  • Gardening Links and Resources
  • Container Gardening
  • Seed Saving

As well as specific planting guides for four counties in East Tennessee:

  • Anderson County
  • Blount County
  • Knox County
  • Sevier County

  2. What did you do? Explain your work.
    • I came up with the idea of creating a planting guide, as gardening is a topic of interest to me. My group members helped narrow it down to an East Tennessee planting guide, as we are attending school in East Tennessee. I selected the color scheme and an initial CSS for our website and created a template for our county pages so that they were all formatted the same. I primarily wrote the HTML for the Container Gardening and Sevier County pages. I also helped with the Gardening Links and Resources page, although that was a shared responsibility. I helped my group locate many of the materials we used for this assignment because I was familiar with them as my current job is on the Agriculture Campus of UTK.
  3. What was your role – group or individual?
    • This was a group assignment split between four people.
  4. What skills and competencies does this example showcase?
    • Web design, HTML, CSS, writing for the web, site navigation, creating a static website
