Naomi McPherson

Naomi McPherson is an immensely talented member of MUNA. In addition to playing synth, guitar, and providing backup vocals, Naomi produces all of MUNA’s music. Raised in San Diego, California, Naomi identifies as nonbinary and uses they-them pronouns. They grew up in a family of jazz musicians but played classical piano before falling in love with the guitar. Naomi went to the University of Southern California aiming to become a professor as they knew how hard a musical career would be to achieve and maintain. However, after meeting with Katie and Josette, they all clicked and knew they had to pursue their dreams of starting a band.

Comprised of Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin, and Naomi McPherson, MUNA is an indie pop band that was formed in 2013. The three members met while attending the University of Southern California and immediately knew that they wanted to form a band together. They released their first EP in 2014, with their most recent album coming out in 2022. All three members of the band identify as queer and embrace their identity as a queer band that inspires people to be comfortable with their identities. If you can’t get enough of their music, MUNA also produces a podcast titled Gayotic. Their podcast aims to give insight into queer lives outside of the heightened attention during Pride month.
